Douglas McFarland's Down Under the Kilt; Reel Men Do Dance
$40.00
The year was 1982 when a young lad was brought to life; from the time he could walk he had just one desire – a desire that would consume him and lead him to a life unimagined. This lad was a dancer, in the Scottish tradition, and from a young age had danced the steps of his forefathers. At high school, he had to stand proud for what he believed in, particularly when one of his teachers openly declared “real men don’t dance”. From that day forward, the boy vowed to defend the honour of male dancers the world over. That boy is Douglas McFarland and this is his story…
On Friday 24th July 2009, 7 of the World’s best male Highland Dancers combined their talents for a show that can only be described as awesome.
Joined by The Highland Warriors and dancing live to Scottish rock band Highlander - the men from Canada, USA, Scotland and Australia leave the crowd shouting for more in an upbeat, modern display of Highland Dancing.
In a personal and moving show for Douglas McFarland, the all male cast dance solo pieces as well as group dances to dispel the myth told to McFarland by an ignorant school teacher as a teen - real men don't dance!
You are left with no doubt, as the appreciation and applause grows with each piece, the show ends with the inspired audience giving the men a rowdy standing ovation.
With tributes to special people, a variety of costumes and the crowd's favourite - an Australian Jig ending with signed hats being thrown into the audience, this show is like no other!
With one on one interviews, shot from 5 camera angles and special bonus features, Douglas McFarland’s Down Under the Kilt: Reel Men Do Dance will inspire, enthuse and most importantly take you back to this wonderful live performance over and over again.
